Ian's progress

Public outcomes. Private details intentionally omitted.

July 13, 2026

Today turned several separate personal tools into a more coherent operating system. The largest win was taking Nutrition from an idea to something usable in daily life without losing momentum on Finance or HQ.

Shipped

Nutrition

  • Launched the first complete Nutrition workflow: daily macro guidance, food logging, recipes, pantry state, and grocery planning.
  • Added editable entries, custom foods, approximate serving data, and a low-friction Paste Log for chatbot-formatted meals.
  • Added fiber throughout the product and database so it can be reviewed alongside calories and macros.
  • Connected the app to the HQ data project and deployed it at nutrition.ianbrisson.com.

Finance

  • Added ledger-derived recommendations with a persistent action tracker.
  • Added verification that checks completed recommendations against newer transactions instead of trusting stale claims.
  • Shipped the SimpleFIN nightly synchronization path.
  • Completed a net-first redesign of the conscious-spending flow on a review branch.

HQ and Job Search

  • Merged authenticated Job Search artifacts into HQ: candidate facts, career stories, pipeline, and role-pack status.
  • Hardened callback redirects and missing-content behavior around the private artifact reader.
  • Established the first public daily-progress surface without exposing the private HQ dashboard.

Decisions

  • Finance remains the home for money-oriented systems. HQ remains the home for human systems such as Fitness, Nutrition, and life operations.
  • Nutrition recommendations should start with the active Training, Recovery, or Rest macro profile; pantry and convenience are supporting signals.
  • Daily progress will be one evidence-backed closeout, not a separate FOAM rundown from every agent.
  • The progress log stays file-backed and public-safe. It needs no database, scheduled job, or LLM API.

Used in real life

  • Logged the day's first food in the new Nutrition system and used that friction to improve the actual product.
  • Turned a real grocery haul and cooking plan into the basis for pantry, grocery, recipe, and meal-decision features.

Carry forward

  1. Use Nutrition on mobile for ordinary meals and fix only friction that appears in real use.
  2. Return primary attention to the Job Search once food preparation and the day's nutrition baseline are handled.
  3. Review the Finance conscious-spending redesign before merging it.
  4. Keep Fitness in execution mode; improve the software only when it reduces training friction.

Parked

  • Real Estate remains intentionally parked.
  • Nutrition automation, barcode scanning, perfect inventory depletion, and external food databases remain unnecessary until real usage proves otherwise.
